Those who attended the concert on Saturday, Mar. 10 at The Mary Webb Centre were treated to a truly amazing performance. It was intriguing that Rick, on guitar, Alec Fraser on stand-up brush bass (a snare drum attached to the bass) and Rob Phillips playing his electric keyboard could fill The Mary Webb Centre with such wonderful music. They had the audience hooked by the end of the first song. Rick provided entertaining stories about each of his songs, where he got his inspirations and how some of them were written on the side of the road as the spirit moved him with a new song. Rick, for some songs, played his 1936 National Steel Duolian resonating guitar which provided a truly unique sound.
The trio played blues, juke joint folk and ragtime soul and received a boisterous standing ovation at the end of the concert. They rewarded the audience with a few more songs to close out an outstanding evening. There were many comments after the concert that The Mary Webb Centre has to have Rick and his trio back to TMWC again, soon. Intrepid General, the contractors for the soon to be completed expansion, sponsored the evening.
