Marisa Van Haren has had a love of art her whole life.
When she went to Italy at age 19 years, Marisa spent 2 months wandering through churches where she developed her appreciation of fine art.
Years later, she took tole and decorative painting courses and has painted ever since.
Tole painting is a centuries old folk art where tin, wooden items and other household objects are decorated with acrylic paintings.
After attending conventions and conferences, Marisa opened a home studio where she offered painting classes to local women as well as children for many years.
These classes included a social aspect and could be life changing for the participants as they gained confidence and skill.
She says, “I can teach anybody to paint from 7 years to 80 years old.”
Marisa emphasized to her students how to work the brush and stressed practice, practice, practice.
After retiring from active teaching, Marisa still enjoys painting, sometimes with friends as well as with her grandchildren who learn how to paint on rocks and other works of art.
