Review of the Michael Vanhevel Concert at The Mary Webb Centre on June 2nd 2018
What a fun way to end the 2017-18 concert season at The Mary Webb Centre. From the time he walked onto the stage until the very last note, Michael Vanhevel , from Petrolia, had the audience loving it all, singing and clapping along, twisting and dancing in the aisles and just plain having a really good time. With amazing stage presence and accompanied by 5 very talented musicians who were all as engaged in the music as Michael, we went on a memorable musical journey through the 50s and 60s. With a running commentary between each one, Michael sang songs by Elvis, Buddy Holly, Bobby Darin, Paul Anka, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Vee and many more. As he moved through the 50s and on to the 60s, Michael talked about the singers’ influence on not only him, but the musical world as well. Comments after the concert included “I just paid $30 for a $100 concert!”; “The most fun I have had in a long time!’ and “I sure hope that he comes back soon.” If you weren’t in attendance Saturday night, you missed something truly special!
The 2018-19 artists are almost finalized and it promises to be another very entertaining season. The new addition to The Mary Webb Centre will be finished, including the new lift providing easy access to the concert hall. The Centre will also have the opportunity to obtain a liquor license for special occasions. Our web-site marywebbcentre.ca will soon have all the details of our upcoming season. If it’s at TMWC, you know it is going to be great!
