Rant Maggie Rant, the “Celtic world beat band with a bit of attitude” returns to the Mary Webb Centre at 87 Main Street West, Highgate on January 26th at 8.00pm – a fitting link with Robert Burns Day which commemorates the 25th January 1759 birthday of the celebrated Scottish poet.

At the first ever Mary Webb Centre concert in May 2010 the five-member ensemble kept the audience clapping and toe-tapping through two sets of Irish and Scottish tunes with rousing vocals and drums by Glen Dias, the stirring pipes of Mark Fletcher, fabulous fiddling by Lindsay Schindler, the virtuoso strings of Barry James Payne and an array of percussion performances (including a cow bell) coming from Rob Larose.

The timing for this concert makes a fitting link with Robert Burns Day which commemorates the 25th January 1759 birthday of the celebrated Scottish poet.

In honour of the bard’s birthday a very limited number of tickets will be available for a pre-concert Burns dinner in the Mary Webb Centre Gallery. Dinner festivities begin at 5.00pm with a cash bar and silent auction. At 6.00pm the Haggis will be piped in and the three-course dinner will begin with a Toast to the Haggis and a “nose” of Scotch. The first round of a silent auction closes at 7:45pm when dinner guests take their reserved seats for the concert.

Expect as exhilarating an experience at their third appearance in the historic Highgate building. Their programme features traditional tunes with exotic influences – reels with a touch of Appalachian Swing, jigs driven by Latin rhythms, slow ballads haunted by sounds of past centuries.
