Marie Spence

Marie started painting when she was a teenager.  She developed her talents under the guidance of several local artists and nationally recognized artists.  After her retirement from elementary school teaching she dedicated herself full-time to her artistic endeavours.  She paints with oils, watercolours and pen and ink.

Historic buildings have attracted her artist’s eye.  She enjoys painting water mills, wooden barns and houses with character.  As she travelled throughout Canada and elsewhere she has captured lighthouses on canvas.  These buildings that have been integral in the seaside landscape are disappearing as automation replaces traditional lighthouse keepers.  Marie has painted many historic buildings in eastern Chatham-Kent and neighbouring areas.

In the past few years Marie has created many hand-painted porcelain dolls.  She pours the porcelain into the molds, fires them, paints them and sews the authentic costumes.

Marie’s studio is located at 15487 Spence Line, eight kilometers northeast of Highgate.  Phone 519-678-3326 or mariespence14@gmail.com.
